  • MBTA nonsense and sexual harassment in general

    Grrrr!!!!

I know, I know. How terribly uncivilized and irrational of me. That is not how you debate, Addie, bad girl.

Fuck it. I'm human. And this shit is pissing me off. The worst part is that I don't know what pisses me off the most. Is it the fact that supposedly this has been going on since 2002 and only now is it really getting attention? Could it be the fact that only one woman had the balls to actually say something? Could it be that from reading comments and discussions on news sites about the issue it seems that more people think she's just bullshitting than actually believe her? Maybe it's that I do believe her because I see women treated like shit at their workplaces all the time and they don't say shit, so I'm angry at the women who didn't have the guts to stand up not only for themselves but for their coworkers too? Or perhaps I'm more angry at the people who actually committed the "sexual misconduct" ? Then again, it could just be a general feeling of frustration at a world where women have almost all the same legal benefits as men, but are still treated like playthings and are oh-so-seldom taken really seriously. I don't know.

I'm referring, of course, to the case of female public transportation police cadets in Boston, Massachusetts, being coerced into sex with their supervisors. Here's a link to one of the articles: MBTA Sexual Misconduct

Now, I'm not saying that anything did or didn't happen, I'm just saying that I know sexual harassment and worse happens in various workplaces on a regular basis and it's rarely even addressed, most often because women are afraid to say anything. I can't speak for everyone, but the reasons I've heard were: didn't think there was enough proof for anything to really be done about it, would just make the person angry and make things worse, everyone else likes him so they'll all hate me and work will be miserable if I say something, I'm not gonna be here much longer anyway and life is hard enough than adding legal nonsense to the pile, and what if he gets fired? he has kids to take care of. My take on the last one is HE SHOULD'VE THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE HE FUCKING DECIDED TO HURT SOMEBODY. Maybe his daughter will grow up to work for a man who gropes her. Won't that be nice? The others I can understand to a degree especially since, in many situations, other women will not stand up for you even when they know what happened. That fear of rocking the boat or whateverthefuck it is seems to go as far as not realizing that there's a shit ton of us and if we stick together and support each other we might actually be able to improve things.
Believe me, ladies, we can fix things if we just speak up, support each other, and look at the bigger picture.

Alright I realize this is just angry ranting, but that's what I made this blog for. It's completely anonymous and I need an angry rant every now and then.

Anyway, all done. Enjoy the rambling. Perhaps I'll edit all these into well-crafted persuasive essays one of these days, but for now it's just nice to get shit outta my head before I sleep. Thanks.
